Counter Logic Gaming Drops Their Overwatch Roster

The North American eSports organization founded in April of 2010, Counter Logic Gaming recently announced that it will drop the team’s Overwatch roster since it doesn’t align with the organization’s goals. This means that Counter Logic Gaming is releasing its Overwatch team. The major North American eSports organization will be actively looking to sell off its Overwatch players to new organizations.

Some of the Counter Logic Gaming players have already been picked by the major new rosters, the organization announced, in addition to other details. It seems like all the details regarding the organization dropping their Overwatch roster have been finalized.

Failing to Meet Expectations

It should be noted that Counter Logic Gaming announced the acquisition of its Overwatch roster back in December last year in order to compete at the Major League Las Vegas Overwatch tournament. Much of the team’s players decided to stay on board ever since their first tournament as a part of the CLG Overwatch roster.

Even though the team experienced middling success when it comes to global competitions, the players were loyal to CLG. Despite the fact the CLG Overwatch roster has gathered plenty of first and second places in some smaller tournaments online, major Overwatch competitions mainly did not pan out for CLG, especially at that time when the team didn’t manage to qualify for the North America event, the first season. Unfortunately, the team only managed to finish in 9 th , afterdropping the ball in the season zero of the group stage.

Counter Logic Gaming organization stated in their announcement that in the month leading to the CLG roster release, the team underwent extreme re-organization in order to re-evaluate the position of Counter Logic Gaming organization in the eSports scene. Despite everything, the organization still believed that major Overwatch League could be the right fit for CLG Overwatch roster, but after many months of discussion it was simply determined that entering the upcoming Overwatch League simply doesn’t align with the CLG goals at this point in time. The organization announced that it is the time to part ways with its Overwatch team.

It should be noted that Counter Logic Gaming is not alone when it comes to existing Overwatch League.

eUnited Ready to Throw in the Towel

Another major North American eSports organization, eUnited announced that the organization will be selling its leading Overwatch roster since this upcoming league simply isn’t an option for them. It seems that the reason for dropping their Overwatch roster came after falling to the bottom of the standings in major Overwatch Contenders.

eUnited general manager Daniel Clerke stated that the organization will maintain a healthy as well as a very active relationship with Activision Blizzard. The organization also plans to continue to support major Overwatch League and the vision which Blizzard has created. Counter Logic Gaming and eUnited are not alone in their plans to exit, either, since another eSports organization decided to drop from the league. Team expert, a German eSports organization also decided to part ways with the upcoming Overwatch League. It should be noted that dozens of eSports organizations have left competitive Overwatch scene the changes introduced last year.
