Things with silences probably. Silencer will screw sand king over, though a good orchid can make an sand king totally useless to.
Ofcourse he does work most effective as a secondary support kinda since having Blink dagger etc. quite fast can be a massive advantage, so if you have to be a full support its kinda meh.

Overall its a nice hero in most cases. It doesnt really counter much, but doesnt get countered by that much either so its just an avarag solid choice i guess.

I’d say sand king is only a bad pick when the other team have alot of stuns, they could stop the channeling and then no epicenter, makeing him fairly useless in the fight.(also, if the other team picks specter, because she could cancel the blink with her ult, happened to me a few times.

You cant stun epicenter. After the casttime before epicenter, it cant be stopped by anything. No stuns, no silences, not even death will stop the damage effect.
See it as a 2 second casttime to apply a buff to himself which causes the damage around him.

The basic means to counter a Sand King are quite widespread: silence, dust, sentry wards or any spell that can be cast on the ground. Atleast these are what usually shut me down.

If SK maintains Sandstorm to farm creeps or to escape right-clicks the only thing you need to do is slap some dust on him, tell your support to ward the place or aim a spell in the middle of it. Knock Back also interrups Sandstorm, because it is a channeling spell.
But as a SK yourself, you could always react before they do and move out of the way – pubs aren’t always so smart.

Silence takes away his niches: No stun, no escapes, no slow and no AoE damage. But this works only when you can see him or you just know he’s there AND you get to cast it before he Blinks in with an Epicenter and Rampages your team faster than your support can say, “But I warded that spot!”

Most SKs cast their spells in fast succession:

  1. Burrow Strike through the Hero(es) and creeps
  2. Right-click one or two creeps for Caustic Finale’s AoE damage (just tag them, you don’t have to kill them on this stage)
  3. Dududududuu dududududuu
  4. (Add Epicenter + Blink before the Burrow Strike for extra damage and slowdown)

However, he falls behind late game, because none of his abilities really scale damage wise (except maybe Caustic Finale) and the enemy carry buys a BKB at some point anyway.
Stun and slow is always welcome though and IF you have the gold to buy Boots of Travel you can turn him into Rat King split pusher/anti-split pusher.

TL;DR
Better than Riki, that’s for sure.
