Wildcard Match Preview
Well, after months of waiting, TI3 is finally upon us! First up is the Wildcard Match, where Quantic Gaming take on RaTtLeSnAkE, and just like that, the East vs West narrative starts again. Everywhere you go, players, casters and fans alike are talking about which region will have more teams in the Top 8.
You no doubt have a favourite team going into this TI. Personal allegiances aside, though, we are all psyched and ready for the tournament of the year. We’ve had some great Dota 2 this year in the form of G-1, G-League, the Alienware Cup and more. However, nothing you have seen so far in 2013, and let’s hope, nothing you saw last year at TI2, will have prepared you for what you will experience in the week to come.
There’s no doubt about it, sports fans: this The International will be the best to date, and Team Liquid Dota 2 Coverage is here to take you through it. Read on, as we dive right into our coverage!
The Wildcards
By TheEmulator
The International 2013 starts in just over a day, but as it stands only 15 of the world’s best teams are confirmed to play. The final spot will be decided by a wildcard match between the 2nd place finishers of the Western and Eastern Qualifiers. With the preliminary rounds just around the corner, the hype is rising in the Dota 2 world, and this wildcard match will indeed be a taste of things to come.
Quantic Gaming: Dota Gone Wild
Though Quantic Gaming isn’t the team you’d go to first when you think of possible TI3 champions, at the Western qualifiers they showed that they had definitely come a long way this year. They competed in the qualifier as DD. Dota, but with success there, and the promise of possibly qualifying for TI3, they were picked up by Quantic Gaming. Quantic haven’t had the most stable lineup over their time, but recently they have been pretty solid, even putting up a close 1-2 series against Alliance in the DHS finals. Goblak is one drafter who knows the Chinese scene quite well, so he might have a few tricks up his sleeve against RS. Their carry player, Silent, is also someone to look out for, especially if he’s given Gyro or Alchemist. Many people will be cheering for them in the Wildcard Match at TI3, and for many fans, the East vs West narrative starts here. Will the West rise? We will have to see.
RaTtLeSnAkE: Born Wild
RaTtLeSnAkE are a new Chinese team formed this year, and they have proven to be one of the strongest Chinese teams around, which also makes them one of the strongest teams in the world. Although they don’t have many results to their name, the biggest being 2nd at the TI3 Quals and 3rd at AMDPL, they are still new enough that their lack of results don’t really define them. They still have plenty of time to prove themselves, starting with the Wildcard Match in which they are considered the favourites, although not by a large margin. Under the leadership of Luo, and with Dota veterans such as LaNm, RS will certainly put up a fight for the coveted final spot in the prelims. Their play style is extremely diverse, even weird at times. As noted before, Goblak knows the Chinese scene quite well. However, that may not help him much against RS, the most unconventional Chinese team out there. As we have already seen, with RaTtLeSnAkE you should always expect the unexpected in terms of drafting.
Seattle Bound: A Canadian Goes To TI3
By TheEmulator
I hail from a very small city in Canada called Saskatoon, located in the province of Saskatchewan (very funny I know, but at least I’m not from Regina). I’ve been all over Canada and have traveled through most of the Rockies and Western Coast, but not once have I mustered up the courage to leave my beloved homeland, yet alone take an airplane by myself for the first time ever to one of the biggest cities on the American West Coast, Seattle. This opportunity to witness one of the biggest LAN events ever, and to help run coverage for Team Liquid Dota 2, is possibly going to be the best experience so far in this little Canadian boy’s life. This will be my first ever Dota 2 LAN experience, and I hope it isn’t my last. There are many things I am expecting from TI3, and looking forward to, so here are a few examples of what I plan to blog about when I arrive.
The City
Seattle is a major city in my eyes. Going from just over 200,000 people in Saskatoon to the multi-million population of Seattle, I’m sure there are a ton of things to do and see. I’m arriving a day early to see some sights, and even staying an extra day after TI3 to check out things such as the Space Needle, Pike Place Market, and maybe even catch Baseball game. I’m even excited about the train ride from the airport to my hotel downtown. And being in the US, I’m sure things will work differently down there than in Canada. Dota 2 ti3 match id to number I heard that police officers don’t ride horses? How weird is that. Anyways, I hope it will be a positive Cultural experience for myself.
The Event
While Seattle is cool and all, I am going there for the event. TI3 is going to be so amazing, I don’t even know what to say about it. From the games, the casters, the teams/players, the fans, I will witness it all first hand. Benaroya Hall is probably the nicest venue to ever host an eSports event, so I’m sure I will probably just spend hours checking that place out. It is home to the Seattle Symphony after all. I will probably spend every last dollar in the Dota 2 store located in the main entrance as well. Got to get dat Tidehunter polo.
The People
As you all know I’m going there representing TL, just like the hundreds of other TLers who are going with the goal of repping their favourite site. Thus, the people at TI3 are probably what I’m most excited about. To spend the time with all the people I talk with on a daily basis, and maybe meet other cool peeps who I don’t quite know yet: now that will be pretty awesome. Hanging out with my good friends Hotbid and Heyoka in the player lounge surrounded by the top Dota 2 players in the world will be quite an experience. I might even hold the camera for one of Hotbid’s famous formal trolls interviews (you guys jelly yet?).
All in all, I’m extremely happy to be going, and to be helping with Teamliquid Dota 2 coverage. You guys can expect near-daily updates from me throughout the event, so please stay tuned for that. It will include my daily exploits and PICS of everything, from the player lounge, to the main event, to even just hanging out with your fellow TLers. You will see it all!
