General DiscussionPls goods of 3k Dota teach me.

I really like to play Veno, but I feel like the hero is shit. Almost every game I win my lane, the enemy carry goes to the jungle and I just can’t keep up. Heroes like Mirana just ignore me and jump away no matter how many slows I apply. Ogre can manhandle me both in lane and when I start rotating. Any control is long enough for the enemy team to kill me and I can’t even keep away as all my spells are short-range. Is there some secret or general technique that I shoul follow?

Well, for one, Veno isn’t just about q and e. Your w is very powerful and often times should be maxed first. Are you maxing q every game? If so you’re playing wrong. Often times Veno wants to max e if they can chase an opponent out of lane. Veno also isn’t made for “keeping the enemy away.” If you want disables play Lion ;p. Veno needs to get of their spells in a team fight, and then they can die. This means that items like blink and force staff are almost always core on Veno. There are other viable builds. If your team lacks control you can buy a rod of Atos.

At your rank, just buy a veil, blink or force staff. Jump into the middle of the enemy in fights (don’t initiate.), get off all your spells, and pray your team isn’t full of moron. If you’re against a Mirana etc and you don’t have reliable disables or your team isn’t willing to gank with you then consider buying a rod of Atos.

At your lvl its not about the hero its about you being bad. Git gud.
Im not insulting you but if you were better you would win with almost any hero, not just Veno which you have 45% winrate btw.

Well the question is how I get gud, not if I am or am not good. I said already that I can’t relly play him good and thus, have a low winrate. I asked a question “How do I get better”, it takes a real troglodite to answer “Just get better omegalul”.
If I enter a fight, explode and die the enemy will just run away. If it’s a raks fight they will go to the fountain and heal too fast for it to make a difference. If it is a tower fight they will burst down me and somebody else, or just run away. If it’s a general teamfight with no objective the will just disengage. I never found Veno to have enough damage to just ult and die, there is no burst, there is no slow on his ult, the only thing you have is a DoT that supports outrun or TP out and cores laugh at.
Str supports also can just straight outregen the thing, it’s way too low damage.
Am I looking at it from a wrong angle? Is what I’m saying wrong (cause it can be)? Is it good to ult (maybe Q also) and die, leaving your team in a 4v5 and not contributing with your wards and W (and items)? Isn’t this the role of a pos 3-4, to be a nuisance in a teamfight, to weak to inflict real damage, too strong to ignore? Cause Veno is weak enough that half of the enemy team can just ignore him and has no escape tool built in to disengage after casting his very low AoE ult.

Yes, it’s fine to use your ult and die. Once your spells have been used you’re useless anyways. If the enemy can just run away then you’re going to lose the game anyways. Again, you’re *not* initiating. If you do and the enemy runs away that’s just a matter of you playing poorly. You have to jump in and use your spells when the enemy is committed to a fight. If you don’t like this play style you can go for a pipe/mek and wards and get your team to push.

For whatever reason, Veno has always been one of my favorite heros to play. And i’ve experienced the same thing you have. I’d say, 25% of the time i play veno in a core position, we stomp the game in 25 minutes. 25%, we win the game, but i died 12 times, 25% of the time, it’s a 65 minute slow paced game, as veno is a great high ground defender, although, i feel like i usually lose these games. and the final 25%, you don’t stomp your lane at all, and you lose the game without the early game advantage to snowball with.

I’ve played veno every style you can, i think generally speaking, building veno as a position 3 is best no matter if you’re safe lane, mid, or off. My build usually looks like veil > vlad’s > pipe.

Veno does insane damage with his q and w early to mid game. Really until the other team builds a pipe. So, no matter what you build, you’re going to do great damage until 20+ minutes when the enemy buys a pipe, or all the cores have bkb.

With 2x bracer or a bracer and a wraith band, your HP is okay. But with veil/vlads/pipe, you have an insane amount of armor, 35+% magic resistance, plus pretty high hp regen. So your pretty tanky. Not only that, with the GPM talent, that should have your team ready to fight, and WIN fights, even 4v5 while your core is fighting. Vlads might seem like a weird pick, but I find that as an agility hero, and some life steal, you even win right click battles against their cores until they have 2-3 big items, while veil/vlads/pipe is relatively cheap. I feel that pipe makes the biggest overall difference, as slow ass Venomancer can be heavily susceptible to burst magic damage. But i’d really wait until getting it third unless the enemy team has insane burst damage.
